Specialized jargon is only rarely useful.A lot of people think these drawings are charcoal at first, because the blacks are so deep. But I do actually create them w/ graphite. I use a very soft 6B form of the same material thats in a regular pencil(around 2B).And I work on very smooth(plate-finish)and robust paper/board that allows me to smear the graphite around nicely w/ various kinds of erasers. So I actually end up &quot;drawing&quot; w/ the erasers almost as much as w/ the pencils.<br />As for Ouroboros,the image arises out of my sub-conscious during the work (i.e. I don&#39;t have a preconceived idea of creating a drawing that is &quot;about&quot; a subject)It&#39;s a messy process of recognition and discovery that frequently only plays out over a series of drawings, and sometimes over a period of years.
