Wow! That's stunning, Walt. It reminds me of a classical stylisation of the sea, with all the charm which that implies, but those depictions also strike me as a bit flat. Your picture has depth and movement in abundance!
Thanks Sarah!I'd been experimenting w/ a new technique for awhile, and ruminating over it, but this was the first time I finally got off my ass and did a full blown piece this way. It's a larger format than most of my other drawings, more akin to earlier paintings, and the surface is a solid panel w/ gesso that has been polished very smooth.The active drawing process w/ soft graphite is similar, but instead of the heavy use of erasers that I employed in the paper pieces, I'm using turpentine soaked rags to blend, spread and remove graphite in certain areas.It's an invigorating change that is suggesting new directions...which I really like.
